guzzi01
I have two 28mm canon FD lens, same marking on both but they are different. On the one with the lowest serial number the rear glass is recessed into the body farther. Also by just eyeballing them side by side the one with the lowest number is about 2mm taller. As for f=stops and focus they are the same?
awahlster
They are focused to different distances while you are looking at them.
guzzi01
Yes they were focused the same, Look at the depth of the rear element.<div></div>
awahlster
No you look at your photo the two lenses are clearly focused to two different points on the focusing scale. The rear element on a 28mm Canon S.S.C. or S.C. will be exactly the same at infinity as any other lens. It has to be by design.
guzzi01
Well Mark you got me there. They are the same length, but look at the depth of the rear element. After I put the focus at the same value guess what, they are the same length. Must be an age thing??
awahlster
The lens on the left in your photo appears to be focused somewhere between 10 and 11 feet while the one on the right appears to be focused between 1.5 and 2 feet this is why the differance in the position of the rear element. gnashings
I am laughing, but with you, not at you - this is nothing compared to some of the obvious things I have missed (and the proceeded to make sure the public knows due to the wonder of the www...). Don't feel bad - I don't even have an age excuse!
