rachelle_m.
Hi all, This seems like a basic question even to me ;-) but I have to ask. I'm currently looking at getting a used F100 to replace my N80 and a used Nikkor PC lens (probably the 35mm/2.8) -- I just wanted to make sure that they are indeed compatible. I have done a lot of searching but can't seem to find the answer to this simple question. I know there used to be a site out there that listed all the nikon camera bodies and lenses were (or were not) compatible with them, but I can't seem to find that either. Also, is there a way to determine if a lens is okay to use based on its serial number? Cheers.
ShunCheung
Here are two of those sites, but they don't list PC lenses: http://www.nikonians.org/html/resources/nikon_articles/other/compatibility.html http://www.bythom.com/lensacronyms.htm The short answer is that PC lenses are compatible with the F100. SCL
The manual states the following lenses CANNOT be used with the F100:<p> PC 28mm f/4 (No. 180900or smaller)<p> PC 35mm f2.8 (No. 851001-906200) <p> Old type PC 35mm f3.5 <p> Hope this helps. carlos_miami
The 35mm f2.8 PC with the chrome shift knob won't work, you need the one with the black shift knob. Same goes for the 28mm lenses, though the 28mm lens with a chrome shift knob is f4 and the newer version with the black knob is f3.5.
neil_grant
The chrome-knob PC 35mm works on my Nikon F100. Best to avoid the early lenses though - the newer NIC-coated versions have much better colour and contrast.
