Philip Freedman
Some test reports say the Sigma 30mm f1.4 shows colour fringing, others say it is free from this problem. Before I buy one, please help : Is there a fringing problem? If so, is there a simple and effective remedy? ThanksPhilip
ryan mcgill - trm photo st
Philip, I have not noticed it. The main thing I noticed was back and front focusing, but I have those issues with ever lens I have used... so it is not fair for me to say that. The focus issues were more pronounced with the Canon 28-135 IS USM I owned. Here are some shots with the Sigma 30mm 1.4: http://www.photo.net/photodb/folder?folder_id=588338 Happy Shooting! ~Ryan

wilsontsoi
This was shot with Sigma 30mm f1.4 wide open and I have to say fringing is there (high contrast especially against ceiling lights,) but it is not too bad at all. Stopping down to smaller apertures will pretty much eliminate any fringing. When shooting at f1.4, any mis-focus will definitely jump out to viewer, so focus carefully. For available light shooting, this is a terrific tool and I would highly recommend.
ryan mcgill - trm photo st
Ah... that may explain why I do not see fringing... I have alway stopped the lens down due to DOF. I need to check it out wide open...
alf_beharie
In high contrast situations the Sigma 30mm f1.4 EX can suffer from CA/fringing even when stopped down to f8!
