greg_allum
Hey I have heard Agfa Scala is discontinued or will be shortly? Is this true, I know that the 120 will be discon. but the 35mm as well? Anyone know more about this as its my main film i use, also if there is an alternative coming out or out already? Greg
Fotohuis RoVo
Fomapan R100 is an alternative for the 35mm. Foma also delivers a developer kit also suitable for Agfa Scala development. If you can read German there is a interesting article on s/w magazin: http://www.schwarzweiss-magazin.de Best regards, Robert PS. It's not sure Agfa Photo will discontinue Scala but after the reorganisation ineffective products will be lost.

peter_obaldo
Heard from whom ??? No links then it is a rumor....
rustys pics
I have not heard this. However one alternative is to shoot a standard B&W film like HP-5 or Tri-X and have it processed reversal by Dr5.com.
al_divenuti
What Greg is saying is true: http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/normal_search_result.php?keywords=scala But what 7dayshop is stating may be another matter. There were rumors a year back that Agfa had discontinued all 120 films. That hans't happened (knock on wood) yet.
raczoliver
"Heard from whom ??? No links then it is a rumor...." Are you trying to say that the internet is the ultimate reliable source? That made me laugh.

dean_williams
There have been a lot of rumors about discontinued this, out of business that, Greg, but you're right, no need for smart aleck remarks. Try another source for Scala and see what comes up. Until there's something firm from Agfa Photo, assume it's in production. The outlet you checked may be having a hard time getting it, and simply pronounced that it's discontinued. It's happened before. For an alternative, check Photographers Formulary. They have a reversal process for the Kodak T-Max films.
mark_houlder2
the 7day shop page for scala says the 120 film is being discontinued, but the 35mm section makes no mention of it, so i presume it's only 120 film that is being discontinued (for now). greg_allum
***I Received this from Agfa today*** so it is being discontinued. Dear Greg, Thank you for your enquiry with AgfaPhoto. Agfa scala film including the process paid mailers has been discontinued. Agfa scala film (excluding the process paid mailers) will be available until at least the end of 2006. That includes both the roll film and 35mm film. hart michael
I just received back a roll of Scala in 120, from the Canadian lab Toronto Image Works. I am new to Scala, this is only my second roll, it is just wonderful. For comparison, I shot a roll of Ilford XP2 with the same subject matter, and there is just no comparing the two. Scala in 120 is the closest that one can come to Black and White nirvana, for those who do not process and print their own black and white. Such excellent detail in the Scala, brightness and yet range of tonal shades. Out of 12 exposures, 12 successes. If they discontinue Scala in 120, I will take it very hard. The lab said to me that from over a hundred rolls a week, they are down to about 30 rolls a week of Scala processing.
rodrigo_whitaker_salles
Although I'm not sure if Agfa Scala has been or will be discontinued, I've tried a method with promising results for obtaining 120 and 35 mm transparencies with Ilford Pan F processed with formulae given by Grant Haist in his book "Modern Photographic Procesing". I'll report to the forum as soon as I get definite results.
Ian Taylor
Toronto Image Works will cease Scala processing as of Sept 6. There will be no Scala processing in Canada after that.
