leicaglow
Kind of disappointing--my $150 Nikon P&S takes better images. I hope we can see more images soon.
janne1
Which P&S that would be? I now dont need to wait for the Sigma ;)
michaelkh
Looking at the DNG for the first one, I'd say that is quite a nice first result. It may be rose- coloured-glasses territory, but it has a very traditional feel to it.

terry_rory
I am not seeing these photos. Are they M8 photos? Please provide a link. Thanks
terry_rory
Oh I see they are on someone elses site/blog. Not interested until someone here posts their own M8 pictures. Peter, you have posted some excellent DMR and D-LUX pics in the past. Looking forward to your M8 stuff.

stephen_w.
What's DNG? One must remember: this is an Int'l group. Not all of us understand the acronyms.
dayton_p._strickland1
Stephen W --- DNG is Adobe's version of RAW, I believe. And by the way, since when does a $150 point and shoot allow one to blur out the background? That kind of statement is just pure BS.

john_camp
>>Kind of disappointing--my $150 Nikon P&S takes better images. I hope we can see more images soon.<< LOL. See far too little of this kind of tongue-in-cheek humor. JC
leicaglow
Jan, okay, you got me. It's an old Nikon Coolpix--and it doesn't do DNG--but even the crappy JPEGs were better<g>. I really want to "believe", but all those beautiful camera shots don't make up for seeing the final results.
vinay_patel
"Apparently a spokesman for leica now..." This from the spokesman for Canon who doesn't even own a Leica :-) Leica's employed spokespeople have stated publicly that the pre-release M8s loaned for reviewing did not have finalized firmware and most of the reviewers noted that ethically in their reviews. Leica's reps have reiterated that to people attenting Photokina as well.
leicaglow
Dayton: Maybe my 2 Mp Coolpix doesn't blur out the background... but it doesn't blur out the foreground either, like that cruddy shot. I'm just saying: if those are the only two shots available anywhere from an M8, I'm not standing in line for two years behind all the collectors that want one. vinay_patel
Babelfish translation from the site Peter linked to: 'Namely that the firmware of the version 1.04 is not stabilized with the statements of leader Leica the project and who invites to the greatest prudence when with the ?qualitative? interpretation of the photographer' Patelfish translation: 'Nobody has received an M8 with finalized firmware yet'

Hey look, another drive by spamming by a guy who doesn't own a Leica, doesn't want a Leica, and just likes to insult people in the forum. Surprise, surprise. stuart_richardson
I thought that if we'd learned anything on this board (and on the internet in general) it was that a single photo is not enough to judge a camera, lens, scanner, photographer or really anything. Anything could have been responsible for it looking good or bad -- perhaps the focus was off, or the photographer had a few coffees before shooting it. Perhaps their RAW workflow for a brand new camera is not optimized yet. Maybe they are running an 8 bit workflow with a 16 bit camera. Have they calibrated their monitor? Has every user that views it looked at it on a calibrated monitor?
Anyway, my point is that there are certain photographers who will make any camera look like it has great results, and there are many more who would make a 39MP MF back look like a cell phone camera. The biggest problem I see in this photo is that it is a single photo, in a small, low rez jpeg...not to mention that it is using pre-production firmware which is not supposed to be published. dayton_p._strickland1
Michael: All I was saying is that to try to compare a point and shoot to anything with the potential of the M8 just doesn't make sense. On another point, I don't see this being a collector camera, but I've been wrong in the past and probably will be in the future. I just hope the camera lives up to its potential because a lot of us don't like to shoot with SLRs and never will.
chip l.
Given some of the comments here so far, maybe I was wrong in feeling that the Leica Forum description was a bit harsh. Yes, Leica has placed an embargo on images being posted till the final firmware is ready. But this does seems to support some reviewers comments on the pre-release M8. andy_piper2
Well, here's MY conversion from the original RAW - CS2, no sharpening, no noise reduction, default exposure/shadow/contrast settings the actual full frame, and a different detail (from the in-focus part of the image) ISO 320 - the M8's equivalent of Tri-X/HP-5/Delta 400 - lens was likely a 75 'cron at f/2. Michael - got some f/2 ISO 320 shots from the Coolpix to show? brad - got ANY pictures to show? - Still looking for all that horrible moire we were supposed to see with no AA filter. Trevor - as soon as I can, dude. As soon as I can!

Brad_
brad - got ANY pictures to show?
Still not sure why you're asking me that and what your point is. But, nevertheless, I'd like to oblige, so here's a snap I took of a guy on the street with a digicam I bought from Amazon recently - was $220.

www.citysnaps.net
