mattalofs
Thanks Bob. Ken Ng, those are great shots. Nice work on the B&W as well. Mind if I ask about the developing?
monochrome11
matt - thanks for the kind words, those were shot on TriX@1600 souped in Diafine ~3.5 min (A - five inversions and a bump), then 4 minutes in B (5 inversions and a bump)... minimal agitation... some post processing in PS, curve adjustments, duotone, unsharp mask etc... to be honest i try not to process to much in PS CS because i'm not very familiar with it and i not always able to replicate what i'm doing if it's too complex.. i recently shot some HP5+@800 and souped it in Diafine (same procedure) and i liked the results even better.. althought it was 120 film

icuneko
Matt, At first seeing your portrait above, I was going to ask whether this photo was taken with film or digital. Then, going to your blog I realized its digi. My comment is that the color correction is great, right on, at least or me. I prefer color portraits realistic. I like to see and show people as they are ("sono mama", or "as-it-is" philosophy in Japanese aesthetics). Could you comment whether or not this version is in fact realistic? Does it accurately reflect her skin tone hues, hair color, sweater color, etc.? Plus, I like the background bokeh and shade. It lends a pleasing contrast to the lighting on her, which looks natural, not flash. Nicely done!

mattalofs
Ken, I've haven't used Diafine in about a year, but I've got an unopened packet of it in the closet. I'd forgotten how good TriX in Diafine can look. Time to order some TriX and go digging in the closet.

Steve, I'll echo the reply I gave you on my blog. It's indeed a digital shot. Nikon D80 with a Sigma 30 F1.4. I used Chris Nicholson's by the numbers method of color correction. It's a little slow, but it's gives great results. In this case, the colors are pretty much exactly as I remember. For those interested in it, I've written about it and provided a link to the original article on my blog, http://www.1point4photography.com/blog.
nels
Matt, here's a one-click attempt with "iCorrect Pro" plug-in, startig with your pic above. I can't tell whether thhis version is "correct" in the sense of reflecting the reality, but to my eye, it's ever so slightly more pleasing than your version above as far as skin tones go.

mattalofs
Nels_ that looks pretty good. It's just a bit warmer than what I posted. I'll take a look at iCorrect, but $100 seems a bit steep for a color correction plugin.
