Hello to all please help! would anyone know of a straight forward "method" or

"setting" to make my images the correct size to show on this site. I have some

images already on here but it is more hit and miss than good technique. I use

cs2 but dont know what would be a good size (image and file) to make my images

and hope to find a straight forward formula to use. A big Thanks to all.

The 511 pixel limit only applies to images posted in forums like this one. Much larger images can be posted in the galleries.

Somewhere I ran across the following procedure which does a pretty good job of producing a seemingly sharp and snappy image suitable only for web use. It assumes the image is loaded in Photoshop.

1. Image>Image Size. Select the output width or height in pixels. Check "Scale Styles," "Constrain Proportions," and "Resample Image>Bicubic." About 800 for the longest dimension looks pretty big on most screens.

2. Filter>Sharpen>Unsharp Mask. Amount = 10%, Radius = 60.0px, Threshold = 0.

3. Filter>Sharpen>Unsharp Mask. Amount = 300%, Radius = 0.3px, Threshold = 0;

4. Files>Save For Web. Quality from 25% on up, depending.

Now that's a lot of sharpening to apply to a small image, and it also results in a lot of apparent brightening. For some images, especially portraits, you might want to reduce the amount of sharpening, or use none at all. The procedure can be recorded as a Photoshop Action so that all you have to do is load a photo and press a key to get a web-ready photo reduction...but be careful not to overwrite your original with a web reduction!
