guitar_j
What kind of umbrella is (mmm... how to put this... ) The "workhorse" of umbrellas? I'm trying to determine what kind to get with my ABs, Shoot through(with black cover to make it white a white bounce umbrella), Silver/Gold Reversible, White/Silver Reversible? I just don't know enough yet to know what I will find the most useful. thanks-Josh
ellis_vener_photography
I think the workhorse of Umbrellas has got to be the Photek Softlighter II. it has a removavble black backing to stop stray light, or turn it around so the bowl of the umbrella faces your subject, remove the backing and it works like a softbox and I think still comes with removavble silver and gold insets. I triedthe siler and gold inserts and then promptly lost them in a trash can. I found the effect cheesy --especially the gold insert. Using black backing has nothing to do with an umbrella being a bounce umbrella or efficiency -- it just stops light spill out of the back of the umbrella. try; http://www.photekusa.com for more info.
