blueisland
Hi. Can someone clarify regarding the nikon a12 amber filter. For colour this reduces colour temp ... yes?For B&W it will have a similar effect to a yellow filter? (more or less contrast?) Many thanks in advance
ellis_vener_photography
it will have a very, very mild effect on contast. A12 = Wratten #81A filter = KR1.
Michael R Freeman
Ellis - I think you are thinking of the A2 (81A). The A12 is much stronger and is roughly equivalent to an #85 (KR-12). As to its effect on B&W film in comparison to a yellow filter, I haven't a clue. Mike
arnabdas
Michael is right, I use the Conversion A2 all the time with film (one on each lens as the proverbial "protector") and it has a light, though visible effect. My only one A12 is quite strong, to the extent that I take care not to use it in the late afternoons. With digital I use neither. I used to use the A2 on my D70 but later figured I had to do manual WB corrections to crank up the color temperature most of the time. So I replaced them with L37C for digital work. arnabdas
To answer original question -- for BW photography even the A12 will hardly have any effect (IMHO).
