mr._smith
Do the Nikon D50 or the Pentax K100D have mirror-up when the self timer isactivated?
Jochen_S
If you set the Pentax selftimer to 2s it is mirror up according to the manual, which says nothing about the 12sec set up.
strpichu
No, I've just tried... 2 sec. self-timer instantly raises the mirror, and fires after 2s, but 12 sec. self timer doesn't.. it just waits 12 secs. and then raises the mirror and fires. joseph_wisniewski
Then the Pentax is doing better than the Nikon. It doesn't raise the mirror at any self timer setting. Nikon has been claiming for years that this is because the high speed shutters that came into vogue in the 80's "leak" enough light that you can't keep the mirror up for any serious length of time. D100 had "anti shock" mode that raised the mirror 0.4 seconds before the shutter fired. They weren't even as daring as Pentax, who gave you 2 whole seconds. If you want MLW from Nikon, you have to spring for a D200 or D2X. Canon, on the other hand, puts MLU on all cameras right down to the digital rebel.
