walterh
Due to the recent price drop in film - bodies I just obtained a nicemint F100 with the battery grip. It shall replace my F90X for severalreasons. I will loose on the F90X but not as much as the previousowner on the F100 :-) Now my problem: taking first test shots from tripod I noticed that thebody with the grip seems more shaky and less solid attached to thetripod head than my F5 or my F90X with or without grip. The jointbetween F100 body and the grip seems the major problem (tightened withsome but not brute force). Is this a known problem or am I justimagining this? Does anybody take the grip off for tripod work if fastshooting is not required? I will not be able to develop my films before 2 days or drop them off at a quick lab - so i feel nervous. cheerswalter
User_276104
You're not crazy - using the camera with grip on a tripod is a bit of a problem. I pretty much use the grip when I know I'll be shooting handheld. If I do end up using the camera with the grip on a tripod, I usually set the timer for 2 seconds and shoot that way. I'm not aware that any of my shots have been ruined becuase of the grip. I really only notice the flexing after I've shot, so during the moment of exposure things are probably OK (though not optimal). I've never handled an N90s + grip, but always assumed that it suffered from the same problem.
joseph_smith3
Hi Walter, about three months ago I bought a mint used F100 with a MB-15 power pack. I added a Wimberley QR camera plate to it and use it on my Kirk BH-1 ballhead. I have not noticed any difference with it on the tripod than my n90s with its power pack. I made sure that the power pack was attached properly to the F100--not too tight because I did not want to run the risk of stripping the tightening wheel mechanism. It fits perfectly--you can barely tell it is not part of the camera. Is your QR camera plate atached properly to the power pack? That might be the cause of the less than solid feeling. todd peach seattle, washi
I have used both the N90s/MB-10 and F100/MB-15 on a Stroboframe flash bracket. For whatever reason, the grip on the N90s is 'tighter' than the one on the F100. There's a lot of 'flex' in the MB-15. I don't use a tripod all that much, so I haven't noticed a problem there.
