Mamiya 6 newbie - a couple of questions

I was hoping that some of the Mamiya 6 users on this forum could help

me with a couple of issues I'm having with a recently acquired Mamiya 6:

 

1. In "A" mode, when I change lenses the light meter indicate over

exposure (blinking red ^ at the top of the viewfinder) no matter what

aperture I select. If I take the shutter speed dial off of A, select a

manual speed, then go back to A, stopping down will select an

appropriate shutter speed for normal exposure. I don't have a manual,

so I cannot determine whether this is normal. Yes, it happens with any

of the 3 lenses.

 

2. My 150/4.5 lens has a loose focus ring. It will focus the lens

properly, but there is side to side play - not in the helical, but in

the ring. Is there a way to adjust / tighten this?

I don't think it is normal. I have two M6MF bodies and all three lenses and I've never noticed this when changing lenses. I use aperture priority for most of my shooting. Sounds like it is time for a CLA at Mamiya? I also don't have any play in the focusing ring - back and forth or side to side - mine are all three quite tight.

Yep, you have problems. My Mamiya 6 acts perfectly normal on A when I change lenses... Better send both in for repair...

I agree with the others, yours is acting quite strange and the focus adjustment on all the Mamiya 6 lenses I have ever owned have been solid. Mamiya is very good and fair(in my experience)with fixing and CLA's. Bob.

This may sound dumb but did you check your film speed? Is it set at 1600 and you're pointing the camera into the sun? Or is it set at 100 and you're trying it out indoors? Yes, manual is available for free download at Mamiya's site. As far as the focus - mine is very tight - no play whatsoever.

Also, the camera will not work unless you have a lens on the camera. It also will not work if you do not open the curtain that protects the film when you change lenses. In all these situations a light in the corner will be lit - not blinking though. The manual should help.

I used to have this problem too and when I replaced the battery

for a fresh one all problems were gone.

Not sure this helps, but sometimes weird or intermittent behavior can be fixed by ensuring that the lens contacts are clean (each lens, of course, has an electronic shutter)
