Baoshen Temple reached its peak in Song dyasnty, with five thousand halls and one thousand monks covering half of the town, considered an equal to the Linyin Temple in Hangzhou<p> 19 century world reknown author Wang Tao wrote a chapter "Listening to the Sound of Pines of Baoshen Zen Temple" in his book A "Pictorial Travelog" (1890). At that time, Baoshen Zen Temple was till quite large, as seen in the illustration<p> Baoshen temple was destroyed and rebuilt several times.
