chris_dilenardo
just got back my first roll of slide film (mounted) and to my horror on 25 out of 36 there is what looks like a huge crack/scratch in the centre. i could swear its not a scratch in the camera as its wavy and not the full length of the slide(ive seen scratches a plenty in some vintage cameras i use and they are perfectly straight across the whole film) any ideas what caused this? theyve been sent back to kodak(uk) to be fixed (i cant see how). im really fuming about it. should i try to claim some compensation for my lost efforts? ( about 20 hrs worth of walking involved in that film. any suggestions greatly appreciated cheers chris
john_shriver
They will give you a free roll of the same film and free processing. That's the deal you agreed to in the fine print on the envelope the film went into. Nobody who processes film will accept more liability than that. art_haykin
It's almost certainly a lab mishap of some sort, and their liability is necessarily limited, as above. Supposing you had invested 10 days in that shooting at a cost of a 1000? a day.If this were the case, no processing labs would exist. Shit happens, get used to it. bill.akstens
I just had a roll of slide film with a similar problem in one corner of every slide. Turns out a small hair had gotten stuck within the shutter blades of my camera. Inspect everything very closely.
panos_voudouris
Let me guess. Did you get it sent to Kodak via Jessops? I used them once and got a partly fogged film back. Their excuse was that the camera was leaking light. Funny how it leaked light on just 10 frames and none of the other 10 films I shot that day. Try Peak Imaging instead. The slides come back and they don't even dust on them. They even send them back in proper sleeves and if you send two or more rolls it works out cheaper. As the others said, all you'll get is a roll of film.
chris_dilenardo
panos, youre dead right!, in my pocket i had a 35mm roll of sensia and a 120 roll of velvia to get developed as well. after seeing the abortion they did on that film both the others are back at home waiting for a few more rolls to join them on their way to peak imaging! guess now i have to face the uk postal system which is worse than the developing at kodak so it seems. ah well. thanks for the replies. a lesson learned
