aravind raman
Can any one tell me where can i find some raw images shot by nikon D2X? Aravind
ellis_vener_photography
you'll probably see some start popping up in the next few days. The more interesting question is what are you gonna process them with?
jim_gifford
Ellis, how soon will you be allowed to give us the details of your experience with the D2X? By which I mean, when does the non-disclosure agreement let you make public comments, and also do you have other restrictions like exclusivity/copyright agreements for published reviews? Just curious when you can let us know how you really feel about the new critter from Nikon. Be well,
gary_woodard
Nikon v4.2 will read D2X NEF files.
ellis_vener_photography
My NDA on the D2x prototype expired sometime back. I'm waiting for a production version to do an accurate evaluation.
hique
What is new in the D2x's RAW files that it can't be read with the usual raw converters? Wouldn't photoshop CS work?
olivier_reichenbach
" What is new in the D2x's RAW files that it can't be read with the usual raw converters? Wouldn't photoshop CS work? " Isn't the D2X's sensor a totally new CMOS or something? Wouldn't that mean new Raw converters?
lex_jenkins
Nikon claims in its most recent catalog that nothing but Nikon Capture can interpret their NEF files with complete integrity. They assert that all other software is reverse engineered to work with NEF. Just reporting what Nikon says, not offering any opinion I might have. ilkka_nissila
Obviously Nikon View and Nikon Editor can do it too.
olivier_reichenbach
Nikon View cannot convert Nef files. Interpret (open), yes, convert, no.
ilkka_nissila
Nikon View can actually convert them but only to JPEG.
olivier_reichenbach
Ilkka, Can you tell me how it's done? I fail to see it in my version of Nikon View 6.1.1 for Mac. Thanks.
ilkka_nissila
When you start Nikon View, it opens up Nikon Browser, which shows an array of image thumbnails. By clicking the right mouse button on a selected image in Windows PCs there opens a menu with one choice to convert the image to JPEG, or a group of images if you have selected several. I don't know how it works on a Mac. I recall that when the D70 came out, there was a difference in the conversions carried out by Nikon View and Nikon Capture. It was a bug and I think they do it the same with current versions.
geof_grieble
Does Nikon View even open D2x nef files? I tried this the other day (on a Mac) and it said it was an unsupported image format.
olivier_reichenbach
Ilkka, I stand corrected. You are absolutely right. I had never seen this function before, probably because I never looked for it. On a Mac, it's under the "Tools" menu. The tool is "Copy and resize as jpeg file." But it shows only in the thunbnails window. Thanks.
