casey mcallister
I would like to redsign my site using a "Flash" type interface that's got all the bells and whistles. Macromedia MX is too expensive and has a large learning curve. Can you suggest some tools that can do the types of things that a professional photographer would like (Slide shows, etc) that are inexpensive and don't take months to learn and debug. Thx, Casey
joey
Flash is proprietary to Macromedia, so you need to buy their expensive software if you want to develop Flash-based web sites. A much easier, more compatible, and (in my opinion) more aesthetically appealing option is to develop slideshows, galleries, etc. using a combination of JavaScript and server-side code. Lots of bells and whistles, if misused, can really detract from your images, so you should use them only when there's a specific need. I'm working on designing a site for myself right now. E-mail me if you've got any other questions, if you'd like.
bobatkins
I hate Flash sites. If you want to piss off everyone with a dialup connection, Flash is certainly the way to go! There are open source alternatives (see http://www.openswf.org/), but if you think MX has a steep learning curve, you may be in for a surprise. gpdno
Uuuggg...flash sucks. Many people, like myself, will avoid any flash enabled site. The work on your site should speak for it's self. If you think you need flashy stuff to improve your work maybe you should just do better work. Forget Flash...just take photos-a flash is ok then :)
