Michael R Freeman
Okay, it's not as bad as it sounds. I still have all my gear (Ichecked). :-) But, I just noticed that in the "Your Equipment [Manage yourequipment]" section of "Gallery | Your portfolio" that all of thecameras/lenses/film data that I had previously entered has disappearedEXCEPT for those "values" that are present in the details section ofthe photos I currently have posted. Is it just me, or has there been a purge of the database? Michael

mottershead
There was a purge of the database. What happened was that any equipment definitions that did not have at least one photo associated with them were removed. There was a lot of junk in the equipment database, and removing equipment not associated with any photos was one way to get rid of the junk. Michael R Freeman
Thanks Brian. No problem. I expect that all of this unassociated data was taking up a lot of "space" and resources.
mottershead
The space being taken up was trivial. I'm just trying to clean up the equipment database, so that people aren't presented with so many variant spellings (etc) of the same equipment. Getting rid of all the equipment that isn't associated with any photos was a good way to start that process.
marbing
I have discovered the same thing and I understand your reasoning for purging the equipment database for space reasons BUT...I was pleased to have that database located off-site (for me) because it contained all of my Serial numbers which (if my gear was ever stolen) I was hoping to have available on THIS database. Also, the culling of the database was obviously recently done from the currently posted gallerys. I have been removing images from my gallerys because I also didn't want to fill up your drivespace...what has happened is that I deleted images without realizing that the gear that was used in those shots would also be deleted. alex_albrecht
Ditto, all my serial numbers gone :-( I guess I better wait with re-entering everything till there is only one of all the different spellings left for each lens,... (I agree that this is irritating). But I really liked the idea of having the SN safe in one place.
mottershead
The photo equipment database was intended to allow people to identify the equipment used in taking photos they had uploaded, so as to permit searches, etc. It is such a mess at present, searches aren't really feasible. It never occurred to me that people were using the capability to create a personal equipment list, independent of the photos they had uploaded.
