john_elder1
I had a day off today and did my favorite thing:went to NYC to shoot. I went to Wall Street at the lunch hour and I can't BELIEVE the security surrounding Wall Street and nearby area. Actually I was shocked by the Number of Cops carrying Automatic weapons. To my great surprise no cop said a single word to me and I spent alot of time there shooting everything including builings and security. The cops with the Automatic weapons are VERY good at spotting a camera and immediately turn their back as soon as they would see me. I WAS able to shoot a couple girls wearing "HUSTLER" t-shirts handing out some type of passes. I have to give the cops the credit on this one, they didn't bother me at all. I tried like hell to get a good close shot of a cop with automatic weapon. But won't know for at least a week. I was only using a 35mm and a 28mm lens. I am way behind in WET darkroom work. Anyway, any street shooters in NYCif you can get to Wall st during the noon hour you will score.[no pun intended]

jay ott
Here's I think of these so-called bans on photography. I think there should be a ban on stupidity.
absinthe
Andrew, Aux cops are volunteer wannabes & hold no authoroty. They aren't required to have any education in law or criminal justice. AAMOF, they can be as young as 16. They are there as police presence. They thought what you were doing was against the law. They were wrong. Next time, politely tell them so & put the burden of proof on them (but politely, even criminal lawers don't know every law on the books)
bjorke
Andrew, that is a big load of bull they were shoveling. You might want to check photopermit.org for some suggestions on how to manage things if this sort of incident ever repeats.

A schoolyard??? Oy.
