admiralblur
Maybe you can help me find a book. The photographs are from a police station in New York (I believe), showing murder scenes, forensic photos shot from above on a tripod looking down at the body. I think glass negatives were found in the police station when it was being torn down? I don't remember the publisher, title or anything, so I haven't had any luck searching the internet or asking at bookstores. Any help would be appreciated! alvin_wong
Perhaps you are referring to "Scene of the Crime : Photographs from the LAPD Archive" recently published by Abrams?
patrickconnolly
I just saw one like that at Barnes and Nobles two days ago. It was in the crime section and although I can't remember the title it was something obvious like "Crime Photos".
marco_buonocore
Weegee certainly had alot of crime scene shots during the 1930-60's. He had access to NYC police HQ... I'm not sure if this is what you're after, or something else entirely. Good luck,
admiralblur
It wasn't published recently (at least not in the last two or three years) and I remember it fairly well. All the photos were taken from above and in most of them you can see the legs of the tripod (probably all of them). I think the book discussed the developing forensic photography of the era, this style obviously is gone. Maybe I will call the New York Library, though it's pretty far to stop in. I suppose most large librarys could be helpful along those lines. I appreciate the help.

ned1
The NY coroner's office has a "black museum". Not open to the general public but it is open to doctors, med students and various law-enforcers. They not only have photos but also sketches from the pre-camera days. Be warned that some of the stuff on display requires a VERY strong stomach!
