edwardchen
When money is running out, the sponsorship will be most likely the best option left. or is it?

Have anyone got endorsement from manufaturer like camera bags, tripod, lenses, cameras, filter, any photo equipment, notebook, etc.?Could you tell me how and why?

Do you have to be a well-known photographer to be sponsored? How is the chance for a small time photographer like me?

I'll be doing travelling (4-6 months) around US visiting all national parks, cities, all photographically interesting points/places. I'll write reports for my whole trip and post them on my website. Of course I'll mention their products (if they decide to sponsor me) on my website. I could say my website is accessed by many photographers on photo.net and around the world. So they got publicity. How does that sound? Is it pretty reasonable/strong proposal?

Any suggestions, comments, ideas, I'd appreaciate it.

PS: the sponsorship I am talking about here is not about money but actually the products themselves. If they can give a notebook, new Nikon 200-400, that would be nice :). Perhaps a car as well?

Thank you,

Edward Ngwww.edwardng.net
carl smith
I could use a new car too. I'll lobby toyota for one of those Hybrid Highlanders when they come out.
peter_h1
Just some thoughts .. I think you'd need to angle your tender to a particular topic or type of photograph. Simply travelling and taking photo's might bring back some wonderful results, but if they are not following any trend or path then I'm not sure a company would want to invest in them as they would never be sure of what to expect until you get back. If for example you saw that the new Hybrid Highlander was being advertised with a particular theme or location, you could angle your approach to the company by producing photo's in accordance with their current advertising material. Maybe another angle is spending some time researching which 'theme' would be an attractive to various companies, and then create your photo's around that. At least then you could always sell your photo's and buy your new gizmo's with the money you earned.
Carl Stone
"So they got publicity." But, they want publicity from a known quantity. In other words, if your sponsor says "Edward Ng uses our lenses exclusively", the first question outa the mouth of 99% of the public is "Who is Edward Ng?" If you're a proven winner with regard to photography, that's great, but the expense of getting to that level is yours. There is no shortage of photographers without a successful background, and their endorsements are not in demand.
edwardchen
Carl, Edward Ng is die-hard amateur photographer. :) How can I ever be able to buy all Nikon legendary lenses. Money doesn't grom on the tree. right?!
Carl Stone
You just get to the level of Galen Rowell, Moose, or maybe Ansel Adams, and your equipment issues become less of a problem. But Eddy, you have GOT to start thinking, and acting, like a seasoned pro, so the word amatuer must be banned from your vocabulary. You must BECOME sought after! :o)
