toddlaffler
I was photographing using my Sony F-717 when the LCD went black. No matter what settings I change to it stays black. I could point it right at the sun and it will stay black. (Yes, the lens cap is off) Does anyone know what might be happening. I tried hitting the "reset" button on it but that didn't do the trick. Many thanks in advance. Todd
beauh44
Hi Todd, I used to own a F-707. Does the EVF (Electronic Viewfinder) still work? If so, it unfortunately sounds like the LCD might've died. I'd contact Sony to see if it's cost-effective to repair. Good luck!
Brad_
Todd, do you still see the text status information (battery charge, shots left, etc) in either the LCD or viewfinder? If you do, then you probably have a stuck shutter. Happened to me awhile back. www.citysnaps.net
toddlaffler
Brad, yes I do see all the stats, battery life, Shutter Speed, etc. I see it in both the viewfinder and the LCD. A stuck shutter sounds like it might be the case since it happened right after I took a shot. It happened to you? What was the fix. Thanks SO much! Brad_
Call the sony service center listed in the lit that came with your camera - they'll tell you how much and where to send it. If I remember correctly, I sent mine to a place in New Jersey. The charge quoted on the phone was around $125 and was a flat fee - no matter what the problem was - and included return shipping. Be sure to describe the symptoms in a letter with your cam and suggest that it might be a stuck shutter.
I know this has happened to a couple of other people, too. Definitely worth it to get it fixed - it's a great camera. My f707 is the only cam I use.

www.citysnaps.net
toddlaffler
Brad, thanks for that info. I actually live in New Jersey so maybe I can get it fixed locally. Do you remember if the fix required parts or not? I need to get this fixed before Friday. A tall order, unless it is a relatively simple fix. Thanks again, Todd
Brad_
I just found my repair letter. My cam went to the Sony Service Center in Bristol, PA - you need to get an RMA number first over the phone and reference that on your shipping label. The shutter assembly was replaced - so Friday isn't looking likely. Good luck! www.citysnaps.net
