Robert Capa - TV Program

Recommended Posts

There will be a tv program entitled "Robert Capa: In Love and War" at

10 PM on Thursday 10 June on TVO (TV Ontario). This should be

available to viewers in Ontario, northern New York and eastern

Michigan. It may be on satellite, not sure about PBS. There is a

wartime (WW II) photo of him in today's Ottawa Citizen with a

Rolleiflex in leather case.

I think it was just on here in So.Cal. last week in relation to the 60th year memorial of D-Day and also Veterns day in the US. It did discuss that a technician overcooked the negs, completely ruining all but 11 photographs. It didn't discuss the alleged fact that the newspaper initially covered up the gaffe and blamed it on Capa's "excitement" at the time of the invasion. I found it interseting and was glad to see it, but I thought they called Robert Capa the Greatest War photographer or something like that. Could there be two out?

"Capa, made a pile of money on 'D' day. Dog arse photos."

There really is no excuse for that much camera shake, is there?

What was he nervous about? It's not like he was in the first wave

into Omaha beach, for crying out loud!

Or perhaps the photos are "terrible" because he used the

Contax and not the Leica?

Anyways, it was an enjoyable documentary.

According to the documentary and other accounts, Capa was in the first wave. What appears to be blurring is damage to the emulsion caused by over-aggressive drying by a technician. There are a couple of recent Capa biographies and information in the Magnum books.

I thought he dropped his films in the sea.Being a famous sort of guy they used them anyway.

Jon,and AZ have both found a little friend in each other. Sort of sweet really. Hope it works out for them. Can i hear sound of distant bells.
