mike_smith2
Has anyone tried using this new CF tripod with a short or cut down column for macro or low level photography? If so how effective is the in built levelling system? The bubble at the base of the centre section seems a bit strange and would of course be lost when using a shorter column. I have the smaller 1127 at present for hiking and travel photography and was considering getting a short column for ground level work, but this new Gitzo seems to be just about perfect for macro/low level photography when hooked up to a cut down centre post? So I am considering trading up to this new tripod Mike Smith
jeff_drew4
I have 3 Gitzo tripods, but none are the CF models. I use a short column on my G1340 for 6x7 macro work - absolutely perfect for me. I also use an auxilliary bubble level for critical work. The short column concept is handy! I purchased the Gitzo short column from B&H at an unbelievably low price - it was sold as "used" but arrived as "new-in-box"= super deal! Sorry that my comments are a little off-topic but maybe with some creative shopping and $25 you can solve your need.
