jt991
Should the SB12 *sit* parallel to the lens axis ? Using newly acquired one, I`ve noticed that it tilts downwards .. (lower surface of the main part also not parallel with top of mounting shoe). But as no signs of damage, with the shoe *arm* rotating freely and unit working o.k., assume intentional design feature to ensure even illumination of close range subjects. So (yet again) dipping in to the *well of knowledge" hereabouts !
Robert_Lai
I don't have the SB-12, but I do have the SB-15 (ISO shoe) and the SB-17 (F3 shoe). They both seem to have a slight downward tilt when mounted. I think it would have to be that way because of where the support for the head is located, right at the back and on one corner of the flash. I've not noticed any problems with the photographs. I hope that resolves your worries.
