timberwolf1
What is the proper exposure procedures and rules for photography a fireworks display?
dave_barker1
Some experimenting is usually necessary, and also the effects you want to achieve (lots of bursts in a single frame, background lighting, etc.) A good place to start is with an f stop between 16 and 22, and shutter between 2 and 10 seconds. Mirror lockup is also important.
ellis_vener_photography
By putting your camera on a tripod and experimenting. With ISO 100 film I generally start af f/8 -- but that will depend on the intensity of the barrage --and vary the time duration. the rules are you should not make such an ass out of yourself that you detract from others' pleasure. mike dixon
I don't think there are proper procedures and rules--it's just a matter of whatever works for what you're trying to capture. This shot was done handheld at about 1/25 at f2.8 with 1600-speed film.
