jim_ramsey1
I'm interested in renting a photo studio on an hourly basis (in SF Bay Area) and was wondering what's a reasonable amount to pay. I assume I'd pay more for access to lighting. I also assume that there'd be minimums for booking (half-day, perhaps).
I realize that it would depend on the size and features of the space, but it'd be great if someone with experience in this area could give me some ballpark figures. $25/hour? $100/hour?
Thanks in advance.
bobatkins
Yes. For the NYC area, anything from under $20/hr for someone's basement studio to over $100/hr for a professionally equiped studio with a dressing room, bathroom, lights, backgrounds etc. I'd assume SF is similar and what you get depends on how much you're prepared to pay.

There's an OK studio in NJ that does a basic 1/2 day (minimum) for $150 but charges an extra $50 if you want their lights and tacks on a few other extras depending on your needs
jtk
Check with Hamburgereyes in SF. Don't know about $$ to use their studio space.
http://www.thememagazine.com/stories/hamburger-eyes/
luis_g
SF rates run a little on the high side. You can rent for 1/2 day for 250-350, and a full day for $400-600. Hourly, closer to $100.Usually this does not include lighting, backdrops, or anything else.

Check with Left Space (they have 4 rental studios), Blue Sky, they have naturally lit spaces, too btw, Sintak, Studio 202, Rayko and meny others. I assume you have your own lights -- and know how to use them -- or you'll be renting those too.

jtk
I'm sure Luis is right if you are averse to squalor and compromise, but asking around (e.g. Hamburger Eyes, which seems not to have a studio anymore, or with anybody at Adolph Gasser) will probably pay off better than online query.

http://www.gassersphoto.com/still_camera_rental.php
steve_levine
Most of the big city studios run about $1000 per 9 hour day. But this usually includes coffee, and use of their strobes.
Charles_Webster
There's a studio in Foster City (~25 miles s. of SF) that goes for $50 for the first 2 hours and $30 per hour thereafter with lights etc. Let me know if you want the number.

<Chas>
