W/NW Dangerous Places

Recommended Posts

About a kilometer in amongst squatters who live along the Manila to Bicol railway line in the Philippines. Wall to wall squatter dwellings and no to real visible exits apart from the road crossing where I had entered. People have guns, they drink and gamble... not exactly safe. I went in the morning (before too much drinking started) and had an armed escort. Had no issues and the people were friendly... but still cautious!

Barry,

I had passed this area for years in and out of the country on business and on one trip I made a decision to go into this world and photograph. I'd been around Manila enough to know whats a go and a no go areas and where to find local "help" :)

I guess while theyre all happy there aint much of an issue - one reason for a morning visit (minimise the alcohol levels).

Aaaaah... white guy, alone, a long way from home (and help), no obvious way out, extreme poverty, in a reasonably lawless part of town... hmmmmm Im greatful it all went smoothly but also, everyone knew the guy I was with was not there for his good looks.

If ya interested I actually have a dedicated folder
