brandonhamilton
Does anybody have one they could share? I am selling my negatives for the first time, and need to have a property release that I can give with the disc. you know, the typical right to print, not sell.. etc. etc. I tried searching, but came up empty. -Brandon

kelly_flanigan1
Are you physically selling actual negatives? Re I am selling my negatives for the first time

When actual original negatives or slides are brought into a print shop we might assume the customer now owns these, but maybe not the copyright, maybe so.

If a brides mom brought in the original negatives of her kids wedding would you expect a printer to know who owns them, the printer would think the negatives were sold with rights to copy them. Unless there are clues to follow up on ownership, many a original negative will get printed.

With digital inputs its more of a headache for a printer. Folks give clients unmarked files and discs with enough resolution to make a 16x20 print, that they think is "only good enough for a proof".

If your discs images are printed by a print shop how do you police the "the typical right to print, not sell.."? What if a customer asks us to print 100 prints of one image? How would a printer know there is a limit on the number of prints per image? What if the chap you sell the negative or image to has 1000 prints made and sells them on Ebay? or at a gallery? ; or places the image as a Torrent, or as an image on Kazza?

Ponder that a piece of paper that nobody is aware of is not going to police your images being used in the other side of the world without your knowledge.

The general public views the web as free source of images.
