Rollei 16S

I recently acquired this camera at a thrift shop and while cosmetically it is VG, it will not advance the film(the paw is stuck and receded) and as a result the shutter will not fire either--the counter remains at zero. I have given this considerable exercise but so far no improvement. The quality of construction is superb and is quite impressive looking. It had to be one of the better subminitures out there.
It looks like a nightmare to disassemble. Any ideas to try or is this camera regulated to my other shelf cameras? Considering I paid a dollar for it, it will be a pretty good shelf camera.

Hi Daniel

You may want to check this link here, good repair manual:http://www.submin.com/16mm/manuals/rollei/

Alternatively, see this group ,perhaps the member therein can be of help, although only 25 of them:http://www.flickr.com/groups/tinyrollei/

Another groups may be of help :

Bearing in mind these little gems are not expensive as they used to be,perhaps you could purchase another one and have this jammed camera for parts.Anyways,I do hope you get your camera repaired. They are a joy to use.

Kind regards,

I have a Rollei 16 and a Rollei 16S, the film adance claws of both cameras are active, however never worked
reliably on perforated 16mm film, some times the film advances, somtimes not, resulting in double exposures. Hence I don't use these Rollei 16 cameras any more. My Edixa 16 cameras are much more reliable and with better unit focusing lens ( vs Rollei 16's front element focusing lens)

The Rollei 16/16s are the built like tank subminiature cameras. The 12x17mm negative matched the results I got from Minolta MG-s and QT and for several years I had a film in all three. Accessories, back in the 70s where already hard to come by for the Rollei and it was not until eBay made international second hand stuff as easy to get as buying locally did I collect the full range.

http://www.submin.com/16mm/collection/rollei/index.htm

I had my 16s stolen on a holiday, along with newly released Minox EC and LX and the first Hi8 camcorder. My film was already 10 years old having moved over to using more slide film than black/white or color negative.

I eventually, a year or so later, did get a cream snake skin 16s and ran the last of my films through it. I doubt if any of the cameras I have have accurate light meters, harder to determine in the 16s than with the attachment of the Edixa. Only the later Edixa 16 is worth using, most have film doors that I would not rely upon to stay shut.

http://www.submin.com/16mm/collection/edixa/index.htm

As Minolta 16 range, Kiev and GaMi don't need perforations they make for easier reloads than the Rollei 16s.

I started to shoot with Rollei 16 this summer. It is fantastic camera! I reload cassettes with fresh single-perforated movie film Eastman 7222 (Kodak Double-X). I bought 100ft. bulk for $30 and suppose it is quite enough for a while. The lens is very sharp and I can get scans and enlargements comparing to 35mm even on grainy classic emulsion. The meter is accurate in full range. I recommend the camera to all submini fans. You can see my photos here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/max_aleshin/sets/72157630716701636/

Second favoute 16mm camera: Goerz Minicord, with built in prism finder, large real size image on

ground glass, rotate lens barrel to focus until image on ground glass is sharp, no need to guess

estimate object distance. Great for close up photography

Lens Goerz Helgor 1:2.8 25mm lens

Shutter:10,25,50,100,200,400,B

The only downside is the camera is quite heavy
