bruce_erickson1
When viewing images in the Leica X2 monitor (via the Play button) many of the images have red blotches in them. When I enlarge them slightly, the blotches go away. This is a relatively new phenomenon. What is causing that?
SCL
Can't speak to the X2, but most of my DSLR/M4/3 cameras' view screens have an option one can select to view the image with the blown highlights or missed shadows highlighted in color.
Jochen_S
I'm not familiar with the X2, but I can set the image preview on my M8 to have blown out highlights rendered in red. - How are your histograms looking? - Coold you bracket exposures to see if its the highlights warning?
bruce_erickson1
I found the source of the problem. On the setting: play histogram, there are 4 options: standard with or without clipping and RGB with or without clipping. With clipping I get the red in over exposed areas. Without clipping I don't. At some point in the recent past I changed the setting but did not notice the problem until I got an image with overexposed areas. Can someone explain why the other setting are there? I now have it set to standard without clipping. What would RGB with or without clipping do?
Ed_Ingold
"Standard" probably means a single histogram to represent luminance. "RGB" refers to a separate histogram for each primary color. Clipping on one, or even two channels can often be recovered, but it's good to know where you stand. IMO, highlighting clipping on the composite histogram is enough, if not too much information to digest. I leave this option off. If I think there's a problem, I use the histogram as a guide, not blinkies in the viewfinder or on the LCD.
