Radio Slave - Nikon D50 Question

I am considering the purchase of a radio slave system, transmitter and

receiver, for use on a Nikon D50 camera (which doesn't have an external flash

sync connector). The product I am considering is the Pocket-Wizard MultiMax 32

Channel Transceiver Radio Slave with the combination transmitter and receiver.

I know little, other than what I have "gleaned" from reading the various

photo.net posts concerning radio slave systems. If what I've read I understand

correctly... in addition to being able to "trigger" a flash/mono-light hooked

up to the radio slave receiver... one can also "trigger" a camera with the

system from a remote location. My question is twofold... is my understanding

of being able to trigger the camera (Nikon D50) correct? If so, how does it

work?

Will, I should know more about the D50 in this respect, but the way I Wuse my camera is with an AS-10 (I think) connector which has the PC attachment and insulation built-in. I connect it to one monolight and use the slaves on the others.

The Pocket-Wizard will trigger cameras too, but I don't think the D50 has a connector to use the Pocket Wizard. I think that's why Nikon has a low-cost ML-L3 trigger you can buy (I don't have my camera at hand to look at the contacts though). I also believe that's why there is no modulite for the D50.

to use the Pocketwizard MultiMAXasa transmitter set it to transmit and you just slip it's "foot"

into your camera's hotshoe and connect the second unit (set to receiver) to your light(s).

To use the MultiMAX t otrigger your camera you'll need to find out if your camera has the

Nikon 10-pin data port and then you'll need the appropriate PW to camera cable.

All of this (and a heck of a lot more) is covered in the MultiMAX instruction manual.

I've researched the accessories available for the D50 and it looks like the remote you mentioned is fairly inexpensive... much cheaper than buying a second pocket wizard. Also, it looks like one can buy a transmitter module for a Sekonic L-358 (which I have) and use this for the transmitter to trigger the Pocket Wizard radio slave.

Thanks guys for your comments. They have helped me understand what I need to do!
