joshroot
Photo.net subscribers now have the option to mark any or all of their Photo.net gallery image folders as "private". This means that anyone who is given the direct URL to an image page will be able to see it (allowing you to still submit these images to the ratings or critique systems), but they will not be able to view the folder as a whole and they will not be able to scroll through images in that folder via the forward/back arrows that typically appear next to images.

To change one of your folders to "private" go to the folder thumbnail view and click on the "admin options" tab in the upper right. Then click on "Edit folder title and set visibility". Then choose "private" from the dropdown menu and click "update".

Any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. And remember, this feature is only available to Photo.net subscribers (it costs less than 7 cents a day!).

Matt Laur
Hey, that's possibly very useful. Thanks!
richterjw
Nice feature. I don't think I'll have occasion to use it, but it's good to see PN continually striving to improve its already-very-good product and usefulness.

lintrathen
Hi Josh.......... sounds interesting.
Question...... once that option has been activated, will I be able to upload an image (from it) to ImagePro? I ask, because the exisitng "hidden" option does not.... one has to make the folder viewable, upload and then re-hide the folder. This is when the "hidden" images sneak into the mainstream and pop up all over.... still.
Oh, " it costs less than 7c a day"...... that means there's a charge (fee)?
Best regards
pcnilssen
@Grayham: "Oh, " it costs less than 7c a day"...... that means there's a charge (fee)?"

Grayham, Josh writes that this option is only open to subscribers, so I guess he means that 7c * 360 days = USD25, which is the general annual photo.net subscription fee
daverave
This sounds potentially useful, Josh. I'd like to have a folder that I can send a URL for to family members and friends to view all those photos in the folder (which includes photos of my family) that are not viewable by the general public. But it sounds as if I can only send a single image at a time to share to family/friends and not the whole folder; i.e., they will not be able to use the arrow buttons to scroll through all of the images in the private folder. Is this correct?
I currently use Windows Live for this function but would prefer to do it through PN.
alexdumitru
Would the images in the private folder be protected against indexing by the search tool crawlers? In other words, if the folder is "private" I would expect that the images within cannot be indexed and found through Google, for example.
Is this true?
