jamesmck
I picked up (sight unseen) a slip-on rubber lens hood (31mm) for my Minox 35EL. It has a (rather dirty) filter built in, and I have no idea what kind of filter it is. There are no markings anywhere. It does not seem to be a ND. Maybe a skylight? Does anyone know what other filters Minox put into these hoods? I am considering trying to break out the filter, as I'd rather do without it. Has anyone tried this? Thanks in advance.
MTC Photography
Minox el has a skylight filter with hood and a ND filter with hood. You got the skylight plus hood version
jamesmck
Thanks, Martin. The filter in mine seems in rough shape. Do you know if the filter is coated? Any idea how difficult it would be to break it out?

jeff_drew4
You may be able to 'pop' or 'pry' the glass out of the rubber hood. I had some success doing it, but be gentle as the aged rubber can split etc. Also consider measuring the diameter of the lens and shopping camera store filter drawers for adaptable rings & hoods. Kinda fun and the staffers like to watch! :-)
