john_wayne4
Hi all. I recently got my hands on a Leica Winder M (uses four AA batteries). I've been using it on my M6 and it's really loud and sends a lot of vibrations into the camera body after the shot. Since then, I've gone back to a Leicavit. However, is the Leica Motor M any better? And what's the main difference in Leica Winder M vs. M4-2 and M4-P versions? Thanks
ronald_moravec1
The original winders for M4-2 needed to be "calibrated" to the camera to avoid shaking. Later models did not require it, but they all are somewhat rough due to way the are forced to work with the camera advance mechanism. Sorry I do not remember the technical details. Robin Smith
The current Motor-M is great - small and quiet and aids handling ergonomics. Switch it off if you want to go completely manual. Mine is permanently attached. Robin Smith
pc_b
Just like Robin said. Plus it has a centered tripod thread!
laptoprob
You can easily stop the motor from hitting the shell. Open it up and insert a fresh piece of rubber. I found a how to somewhere, might be here on pnet. Sounds difficult, but it isn't. good luck!
richard_bud
Robin is correct! Both my M7's have Motor M's. Position I is designed to be very quiet, almost as quiet as just using the camera without the Motor M. Position II has a faster speed and is almost as quiet as position I. My Motor M's are permenetly attached except for loading film!-Dick
leicaglow
I have a few winders, but always go back to my M4-2 because I don't care for the continuous shooting of the M winder. I had my M4-2 winder serviced and it works great. I never run my drives on my Ms without film. I've heard (and can well imagine), it's not great on the camera mechanicals. Now if I could just find the regular base plate, I could take the motor off<g>.
