leicaglow
I'm dubious, but still plan to do something like this for odd sized film. Anyone tried it? http://makeprojects.com/Project/Turn-Slides-and-Negatives-into-Digital-Photos/1094/1

peterbcarter
There are two major problems with this approach.

1) film on the glass will produce newton rings.

2) raise the film off the glass an the scanner (scanner not made for this task) will not be in focus.

The contraption will only provide back-light. There is more to a film scanner than the light hood.
dave_s
I looked at that page earlier, and I thought it might be a way to make digital contact sheets, anyway. My only scanner is a cheap document flatbed.

rob_piontek
I haven't tried it. But you should be able to find an MF epson flatbed film scanner for $50 on the auction site. I picked up an epson 3200 which will do up to 4x5. Quality is not much different from the new models available today. The main difference is there is no ICE dust removal.
don_bryant2
Take Rob's advice, the article is a very old hack and really a lot of work for mediocre results.
