Horrible reds in printed images

Recommended Posts

I've been working hard trying to figure this out and correct the problem for what

seems forever. The reds on my monitor look perfect, however when I print the

images they are extremely subdued and washed out. I use PSE 6, a Spyder

Express calibrated monitor, Canon IP6700D printer and Canon photo papers.

I'm most definately doing something wrong...any help and/or suggestions would be

greatly appreciated.

The best and most simplest answer is that "true" red is the hardest colour for prints to get completely correct. I have a Epson 4800 and am very happy with it. HOWEVER when I'm doing a giclée of an original watercolour or acrylic for a client, if there is a crimson red, or deep wine red, it always comes out "soft". I let them know in advance about this. You can play a bit in photoshop with red in [selective colours], but it only helps a bit.

That's why on the latest Epson printers, you now have "Vivid Magenta" inks. It's the final frontier, to get rich red tones. All the other colours/b&w are ?done and dusted?

We use Premium Luster, U.P.Presentation, Watercolour, U.S. Fine Art. All have the same issue.
