tulika_saraf
Need help to determine the top categories used by photographers. This is the basic layout I have decided:-

Could you help me decide if the categories are self suffiecient or are there any other popular categories that should be added?
AJHingel
Difficult to tell Tulika. On could of course just look at other successful websites selling photography and see what they use. If I look at just those three that I use (Saatchi, Artspan, Upside-Art and FineArtAmerica) there is a long list of top categories, that are not on your list like: figurative, animals, night, photojournalism, seascape, urban, advertising, architecture, floral, genre, nude, portrait, still life, wedding & event, geometric, community, realism, surrealism, cities, impressionism, landmarks, music, science fiction, sports, transportation, universities, fantasy !!

There might not be any limits to what categories you might choose, but those mentioned are those other website have chosen among their most used and successful categories in terms of sales of photographic works.

You could go also on google and easily see which of these terms are the most used for searches and buying photographies (images, pictures), or use Microsoft's Bing Ads (need to register, but free of cost if that is the only thing you use it for).

By the end of the day, what really counts in order to limit the list of categories in your website is how you wish to market yourself and profile your site. There is fierce competition in the area, as you certainly are aware.
tulika_saraf
Thanks for the helpful response Anders! I want the layout to be simplistic, and thus decided to really narrow down the top categories..
AJHingel
Ys I understood that. Narrowing down is what is needed, but which categories to concentrate on, is the question. I did not give you the longer list for you to use as such, but for you to select from.
The most popular among them can be found by my suggestions on Google Ads or why not Bing Ads.
tulika_saraf
one more thing, do you guys prefer websites that ask you to make a subdomain portfolio website, or do you prefer having a normal account only?
