Gary Stochl

The recent sexystreetlight thread got me thinking about The Chicago

School whose work is covered in Bystander. So, onto Google I go and

came up with someone I'd not heard of before. Gary Stochl has worked

the streets of Chicago for forty years completely outside the support,

or knowledge even, of the photographic community there. Here's a <a

the photographer. His book looks very interesting, maybe my next purchase.

There's a photog on Photo net who use(?) to live in <a href="http://www.pbase.com/rsilfverberg/old_images_people"><u>Chicago</u></a>, liked your stuff back then tremendously. You should go back to that, IMHO.

Jamie, thanks. Somewhere I knew I'd seen Stochl's photos before and when I read the introductory remarks by the photography professor I recalled those as well. But of course I didn't bookmark them, didn't recall the photographer's name once when I tried to, and couldn't remember the name of the professor or the college either.

Final indignity: I had completely forgotten that I'd actually posted about Stochl myself, right here on pnet :)

Well, he shouldn't feel bad cause Ansel Adams' fotos didn't make much money during his lifetime. Mr. Adams, however, was known as an educator and made some benjies (US dollar, US colloquialism) on the his foto books, particularly his trilogy.
