kevin m.
Quick poll: Would anyone be interested in buying an M film body with the same shutter that's in the M8? The 1/250th flash sync and 1/8000 top shutter speed would have kept my TTL's in my bag a couple more years. :-(
dennis_couvillion
"Anyone bored of the M8 yet?" Me... I'm selling mine! Can't wait for the improved M9. ;>) Actually, the only interest I have in the M8 is the possibile effect that it might have on the price of a used MP. which is next on my wish list. Sorry... EricM
for sure, Kevin. i always hated the limited shutter speed dictating what f stop I had to use. the 1/50 sync made it useless in the studio.
kevin m.
Howdy, Eric. I have to admit that no matter how much I might lust for it, the M8 is out of my budget. I've been researching older Nikon primes to fit the D200. They make a 24/2.0 that would make a nice "35" prime, and it takes reasonably sized 52mm filters. Hard to find used, but I'm sure it's cheap by Leica standards. ;-)
EricM
it's certainly a great looking camera, even while kinda naked without the rewind lever. I hope it's as robust as the other M's. I wouldn't fret about Nikon primes, they're all pretty good, good enough for me, better than what i need...
travis1
kevin , have u tried the sigma 30/1.4? makes a very good ~50mm. Nikon mount of course.
michael_a._shapiro
Careful about the 24. After reading all the reviews, I passed on it. The 20, 28 and 35 are all better. Michael
EricM
i'm not an expert, but my af 24 is great for me. so's the 20. those are the two i use the most for kicking aroud town with. back to the M8...

andrew1
I have one of those Nikon 24 f2.0 AIS lenses, and I love it. I've shot loads of film- chromes and negs- at all the apertures, and yeah, on MTF charts and test targets, the f2.8 beats it. But in real-world shooting on my FM2 it's a great lens. It vignettes just a bit wide open, but you have to look for it on a slide of an evenly illuminated subject to see it. It's more than acceptably sharp in my book at all apertures.<p>The D200 is top on my list for a digital body, because for less than half what the M8 will cost, I can get 10mp's in a well built body that will meter with my bag full of old Nikon manual focus AIS lenses, like that 24. Give it a shot, Kevin- you won't regret it.
dan flanders
I have all those bells and whistles on the Oly 5050 that I got screwed on several years ago, and except for using the sensor instead of film (and perhaps the LCD display) all the rest of the complications I can do without. All I want from Leica is a package I can install on the M instead of the back door which will employ the sensor and leave the rest of the M intact so that it can be used with film if convenient or necessary. I can perform all the other digital operations in PS. My hearing aid cost as much as a Leica and it is small enough to lose if it falls into the kitchen sink. Why can't they make a simple device that will record on a sensor. I don't even give a rap whether the sensor is full 18x24 or with a crop factor. bart feliciano
I love my MP, and the M8 looks nice, but it's a tough sell after playing with my Crown Graphic for a year. Works like Leica with acromegaly.
dennis lee
Hey this is better than the Nikon forum, now could we please forget about this M8 and concentrate on a digital F6?
simon_dai
Anyone who really got bored wouldn't even click on this thread ... there're folks responding to every single M8 post on the Leica user forum.
dennis lee
Nice work with the Crown Bart. I had quite a bit of fun with a Century till it got stolen from my car in Columbus, Ohio. It's actually a very nice town. You seem to have a pretty astounding lens on that thing. I would certainly go 4x5 if I where to do that again. Nice job. Alex_Es
Actually, I'm excited about M8 stories. Soon the M8 will be available we we can talk about how we like or don't like it.
iangillett
The M25 is not very inspiring at the best of times. In rush hour it is a parking lot. Ian ;-)
Karim Ghantous
I can't afford one. But what's this talk of DSLRs as acceptable alternatives for an M8? That's like saying that an F3 is a good alternative to an M6. Hello? They're DIFFERENT CAMERAS.
kevin m.
"Wut what's this talk of DSLRs as acceptable alternatives for an M8?" You could buy three D200's for one M8, that's why. At some point, financial sanity does enter the picture. ;-)
leicaglow
Bored? How can I be bored when I've yet to see a single image taken with the M8? Lots of pics of the camera, but not of what it produces!
