William Kahn
The best way to find out is, try it and see. You might try contacting Adobe for advice, but their customer service seems to be a little lame lately, especially for older products. Good luck...

malcolm_denton
The best place for an answer would be http://forums.adobe.com/community/photoshop_elements
It may already be in the FAQs
thirteenthumbs
Try to install the program. Win 8/8.1 has a compatibility feature that allows you to run a program in compatibility mode for previous versions of Windows. Some programs will run fine on Win 8 while others you will have to manually select the earlier version of Windows.
steve_dunn2
Officially, no. The earliest version of Elements that was officially compatible with Windows 7 was Elements 8, and surely an older version than that would not be officially compatible with a newer version of Windows.

Having said that, as a previous response said, you can always try it, and use the compatibility features in Windows to see if they will make it run better. The following discussion is not about your exact situation but it also has some info on running older versions of Elements on newer versions of Windows: Is Photoshop Elements 5 compatible with Windows 7?.
Wouter Willemse
Programs that are qualified for Vista are quite likely to work just fine on Windows 8 (older programs may cause more issues, even those can often be solved fairly easy). So really no harm in just trying to install it and try.
I've used Photoshop Elements 9 on Win8 x64, and that isn't designed for win8 either. Worked perfectly fine.
