Note: In the interests of balancing performance and quality, the topic of image file size and dimensions as normally posted to this recurring thread is under discussion elsewhere in the Nikon forum (the topic is obvious when you look) - please check in there and comment if you have thoughts to share! That's the best place to talk about that particular topic. For now, consider keeping uploads no larger than 1600 pixels on the long side when it matters, and sticking with 1000 pixels when the image feels no pain at that resolution. On data size/compression, try to keep things under 1mb, shooting for 600kb when you can stop there. Note that this includes photos hosted off-site (at Flickr, Photobucket, your own site, etc). Hello and a good Nikon Wednesday to all. This week, a quick behind-the-scenes shot of some very non-Nikon equipment I was using on site with a client. We needed what felt like a fly-through video sequence above a factory floor, but it wasn't a good environment for a drone. Here, I've got a Wiral cable cam transporting a DJI Pocket 2. That tiny little camera does a respectable job at capturing HD video, and I had full pan/tilt control talking to it from an app on my phone. The cable cam rig was stretched out over 100 feet between two pillars (had the facilities guy helping me out with a man lift machine - saves a lot of ladder time!). The machine gets shown where the end points are, and then I could tell it to crawl back and forth on the wire automatically - that way I could pay attention to the video output and compose my pans/tilts as it moved. Very effective! On one of its passes, grabbed this shot of it using the D810 that was there for stills in between video takes.

These highly integrated, tiny gimbals, cameras, and other devices are revolutionizing lone ranger style one-man shoots in the field. Not long ago, the same images would have been nearly impossible in that space and would have required a crew and all day for a few shots. Amazing tools we have to play with these days! So, this week, shots of things you make shots with are officially allowed.
