Sensor Swabs for 35mm Slide Cleaner

Can the typical camera sensor cleaning swabs be used to clean 35mm slides, when used with a cleaning solution like pec? Or is the foam too course and could it potentially scratch the emulsion? I have seen these for sale at $40/1000 on alibaba.

No need to use expensive swabs - a clean well washed "T" shirt will do this deed. Buy some film cleaner and apply to cloth and wipe off. Difficult dirt, start at the center and work outward with circular strokes.

If your slide is worth more than a DSLR, then you might consider something more fancy.

 

Now, what I still want to know, is how to clean the mirror in a Canon Pellix.

I wouldn't use something made for one purpose for something else unless you REALLY know what you are doing.

It's not cheap but 4 oz lasts forever....

 

also be aware that there were "treatments" to "preserve" negatives and film. On old film these coatings may not react well with solvents.

This reminds me that I have a bottle of FilMagic that someone gave me.

 

Someone was giving away a roll of Tri-X (100 ft x 70mm, and 40 years old) on Freecycle, and

added this bottle for free. (Well, it is all for free.)

 

The film is about as fogged as you expect for 40 year old Tri-X, and I haven't

tried the FilMagic yet. As above, it sounds more like a treatment than cleaner,

and might be silicone based.
