I wouldn't use something made for one purpose for something else unless you REALLY know what you are doing.

Edwal Anti-Stat Film Cleaner (Liquid) - 4 Oz.

 

It's not cheap but 4 oz lasts forever....

 

also be aware that there were "treatments" to "preserve" negatives and film. On old film these coatings may not react well with solvents.

This reminds me that I have a bottle of FilMagic that someone gave me.

 

Someone was giving away a roll of Tri-X (100 ft x 70mm, and 40 years old) on Freecycle, and

added this bottle for free. (Well, it is all for free.)

 

The film is about as fogged as you expect for 40 year old Tri-X, and I haven't

tried the FilMagic yet. As above, it sounds more like a treatment than cleaner,

and might be silicone based.
