DavidTriplett
Basic Guidelines: In the strictest sense, nature photography should not include "hand of man elements". Please refrain from images with buildings or human made structures like roads, fences, walls. Pets are not permitted. Captive subjects in zoos, arboretums, or aquariums are permitted, but must be declared, and must focus on the subject, not the captivity. Images with obvious human made elements will likely be deleted from the thread, with an explanation to the photographer. Guidelines are based on PSA rules governing Nature photography which also cover the Nature Forum. Keep your image at/under 1000 pixels on the long axis for in-line viewing. Note that this includes photos hosted off-site at Flicker, Photobucket, your own site, etc Each member please post no more than just one image to this weekly thread per week. If the information is available, many members appreciate information on your approach to making the image and the names, both common and scientific, of the subject(s). However, while encouraged, these are not required as a component of your contributions.

Mary Doo
I hope I had not already posted this one in the past (I think not). As some of you may know, my computer (where the Photo.Net image submission records were stored) was destroyed by fire last year.

I did a Google image search, and that image is not found elsewhere. Also, because of your computer fire, I have spent a few hundred dollars in the last year on various backup hard drives.

Mary Doo
Mary, very nice image. I did a Google image search, and that image is not found elsewhere. Great! Also, because of your computer fire, I have spent a few hundred dollars in the last year on various backup hard drives. I am glad you "benefited" :p from my terrible experience. Me too. I am thankful that many other [older] images were saved in some other drives that were not affected. Though computer fires are not common, now my PTSD makes me turn off the computer every time when it is not in use. ;)
ShunCheung
Mary, I am afraid that it is mainly Western Digital and a little camera store on 9th Avenue in NYC that are "benefitting" from your misfortune. I may have spent as much as $1000 on new hard drives in the last year. Now I have a couple of sets of backup drives in my bank safe deposit box.

Hey you "benefit" from "learning" from my misfortune. 破財擋災 :D Anyhow I recently bought these fast "SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD V2". They go up to 4TB. I am taking two 1TB ones to Zimbabwe end of month. One downside with SSD is we don't know how long they will last.
