Ok so the quick version, long-time photographer but beginning wedding photographer, starting out with off-camera speedlites.

I have, currently, 2 600EX-II RT flashes (actual Canon, yes) powered by Godox PB960 LiIon rechargeable packs, along with the Canon ST-E3-RT radio transmitter, and a Promaster FL190 with a Phottix Laso RX (just a cheapie backup / 3rd "effects" light I can gel or whatever). I understand I'm not at "Profotto" level, just starting out ya know. Profotto=few years on. Anyway, I've been considering if perhaps the Phottix Laso TRANSITTER is better than the ST-E3-RT, for controlling all 3 of my speedlites, primarily for the AF assist beam (80D low-light focus = meh, even on good glass), but for other features as well.

I was curious if other shooters out there had experience with both the ST-E3-RT and Phottix Laso, and what your preferences were in what situations and why? Does one rule over all? Should I avoid one or the other at all costs?

As I said, when it comes to this "area" of photography, I'm a new guy with a pair of speedlites. So I welcome your input. Thanks, guys!

Maybe do some testing? - I'd group and gel all flashes differently, place them close together on my balcony and walk away from the home, to do a reach test for the transmitters and also to find out if the Phottix receiver might be deafer than the Canon ones.

With results at hand I still wouldn't dare to shoot weddings with only one transmitter packed. If the Phottix seems good; get a 2nd one, as a backup or for your 2nd camera.

I haven't handled the stuff you are asking about but I wish I had multiple usable transmitters at work to do product shots with studio strobes. The Chinese cheapo they had (powered by a "stack of button cells" 12V battery) didn't work reliably enough for my taste and switching it between camera bodies was annoying too.

My negative Phottix experience: They discontinued something before I could buy a 2nd. - OK I am talking about VF magnifieres for Leica here. Still not happy with just one.

I guess you know the UIs of your transmitters. - Jinbei's doesn't knock my socks off. Yongnuo's seems OK.

I have no clue about Canon's own flash system. I wouldn't know why to buy that stuff (at least not until my Yongnuos have died too early and then I might recall having been quite happy with Metz in the past).
