i have no idea how to enter, vote or even see the entries. its a pn secret. susssssshhhhhhhh dont tell anyone.

To see, click on Explore, then what you want to see in the drop down box. To participate (Unless it is changed) you need to upload photos to your gallery. Not certain about that, but think it worked that way in the past. Someone correct me if I'm wrong o_O

why not have a seperate forum catagory called PHOTO OF THE WEEK?... complete with instructions? why hook it to personal galleries if its a contest open to all?

i guess thats way to easy... n we cant have easy here... this is the new improved photonet still using ancient hidden traditions left over from duh good ole dayz of DOS text based software?

sandy, it seems even you arent sure how it works, and you are at the helm. how can you expect anyone else to know unless you're an old salt?

Wish I were at the helm - just a Member Moderator trying to make the site better. Before we wish for changes, we need to get things working in current form IMO, then enhancements. Never to my knowledge had a POTD or POTW, just a couple of editor's picks, and those were from galleries I uploaded.

Photo of the Week was never meant to be a contest. The original idea for it was just to pick a photo from someone's gallery (picked by so-called anonymous "elves") that was deemed interesting (in bad, good, or other ways) enough to generate discussion for a week. That may have changed over the years. If it did, it changed tacitly and without any instruction or actual communication on the purpose of the Photo of the Week from administration. When we post photos to our galleries, there is actually a clause few people read that says we agree that a photo we make public may be chosen and discussed as Photo of the Week. Before the redesign a couple of years ago, once a photo was chosen as Photo of the Week, it could not be deleted, ever, by the photographer. Since the redesign, that hasn't been the case, so many photos that have been chosen have been immediately deleted by photographers who didn't want their photo to appear as Photo of the Week. Though Glenn was offered and even came up himself with many solutions to this, none ever seemed to be instituted and, instead, Photo of the Week has been mostly neglected by the power or powers that be. There are many ways an effective Photo of the Week forum could function easily and well. It just takes the will and a very small amount of technical ability to achieve.
There’s always something new under the sun.
