Guest Pamyw
Hi, I wanted to know how I can convert some 16 mm microfiche to digital. My grandfather was a great photographer. I found some 16 mm microfiche during the time of his journalism days. My friend told me that it would better if I convert to digital format if I want to preserve them. I found that these can be pretty useful. I am not willing to donate it. I don't know how to digitize it. I searched online to find that microfiche scanning services can help me convert to quality digital format. I was first thinking about scanning it on my acquaint's Epson photo scanner. Will that do? That would cost me much. I would like to get your suggestion for that. Please help. Thank you.
Tony Parsons
You will need to use a scanner that has a film attachment, and I know of none that accept 16mm film. You might be able to make a holder for the 16mm film which can fit inside the existing 35mm film holder, but there will probably be focus issues. Finding a lab that can scan the films may be your best bet, but could be expensive. Another possibility would be to find a lab that can print from the 16mm, get ptints made, then scan them, but again, this could be costly. JosvanEekelen
I If you have macro equipment available perhaps the easiest route is to photograph the microfiche. There was a recent thread about digitizing slides, if you can find it you'll find a lot of info on how to start. Only thing is with microfiche you probably have to use some tricks to reach higher magnifications, think about using a cropped camera body, macro lens with 1:1 capability and perhaps extension tubes to reach the desired magnification.
