Kodak Medalist II cable release question....HELP!

<p>First post from this newbie!!! Hey, I bought a Kodak Medalist II camera at a yardsale....and I sent it out for a complete CLA. I thought I would use my tiny, mechanical self-timer in the shutter cable hole, but, apparently, this camera requires a #2 cable release. What the heck is the difference. There shure isn't much info on the net. Any thoughts? Thanks, ya'll...</p>

<p>It looks like it might be a type of release is one that fits over the entire shutter release button, as opposed to being screwed into a socket on it [as is the one I have], but don''t quote me on it- I'll see what else I can find</p>

<p>There is a socket on the lens extension for the release. Note: Some releases had tapered threads, some straight. I do not remember which was #2.</p>

You have one of the finest medium format cameras ever made.</p>

<p>The Kodak shutter wants a cable release with a cylindrical thread, not the tapered thread that virtually all cable releases now have. If you don't want to ruin the cable release socket on your shutter, then find the correct cable release. They are easily found on ebay.</p>

<p>If you want a self-timer, then get one that pushes down on a cable release instead of plugging directly into your camera.</p>

<p>I've had no problem using a standard cable release with my Medalist II. BTW, releasing the shutter with a cable release doesn't unlock the film advance. You must still push in the shutter release button before advancing the film.</p>

<p>Hmmmm....the plot thickens. A #2 cable release sure looks similar to a "regular" cable release! I'll post some photos when I get home. Thanks for all the input...</p>
