Possible film development problem?

Recommended Posts

Hello, recently a roll of film was ran through a Leica M6 camera and some of the images came out with these black areas that look like light leak (the rest of the roll looked great). The camera in question is an older M6 that is in really nice condition. This has never happened to me in the past so I am wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar. Could this be a problem with the shutter curtain, or is it a problem with the film development? If this is due film development, what could be causing this? Thanks!

00dso9-562385184.jpg.87acea09f67a1d0f94d3dbfb4fcb0161.jpg

Light leaks are black on the negative, white on the print, so it isn't that.

What do the negative look like?

Shutter curtain problems would have more vertical (or horizontal for vertical travel shutters) lines, and usually sharper boundaries. Also, not like these where there is picture on both sides.

What it looks most like is a finger, or other object, in front of the lens.

It does look about the shape that I have seen from film touching.
(Not that it happens to me often.)
And it kept out both developer and fixer when it did.
The OP didn't say if it was tank or minilab developed, either.

if it was a shutter problem (I think it is called sticky shutter or something specific) then the black would start on the side, but here we see some image, the black, then the rest of the image.
what did you use to develop it? if it's a rangefinder then the finger idea has some relevance. not that you did it, probably... how about the frame markings, are they there? if the frame borders are clear (the blackness doesn't creep out) then it happened in camera. else, it happened when the roll was out.

Hi,
Where film touches during development you get definite edges...as I know to my cost...so I would say this is not that.
The similarity in the shape of the fault, shown on the left side in the pictures, leads me to suspect a light leak into the cassette as the film was being loaded of removed from the camera.
