m_samantaray
HI Gurus,
I tried to search this forum regarding my concerns, but couldn't find right answers to it, so I thought to post it here
My questions are,

Is there a way you can select multi AF points(out of 11) in your canon 6d, while shooting (like can you have center AF point and four assist points selected next to it)? If so, then can anyone tell me how to configure it?

My subjects are kids, but I see my canon 6d doesn't follow the subject after I set the AF .... It doesn't matter if I am in AI focus or AI servo? Is there any configuration to check this out?

Or my camera is faulty? I bought it very recently.
I will appreciate, if anyone can suggest me something on my concerns.
Regards

Robin Smith
1. No, only the one selected, but you can leave it to the camera to select which point it will use when it takes the shot (all are active but only one is actually chosen)
2. It will follow action using the selected focus point on AI servo or AI focus, so you must be doing something wrong or it is faulty. Put the focus point over a subject depressing the AF focus button or half pressing the shutter release and then move the point somewhere else, it should refocus automatically.
Robin Smith
m_samantaray
Thanks Robin.
Answer to question 1 is pretty clear.
but for 2 NO I'm not doing anything strange or wrong, I think I need to give the camera for service, which is sad, because it is a brand new camera...
I was thinking may be some configuration is required for this. But now I'm certain that it's camera which is acting up.
But thanks again.
Robin Smith
Stupid question: you do have the lens set to AF?
Robin Smith
JosvanEekelen
AI servo should work. Just let the camera select the focus points. AI focus is a bit unreliable, at least in my somewhat older (D)SLRs. How fast are your kis moving?
m_samantaray
@Robin Smith, yes lens has set to AF mode.
@Jos, he is quick, but once I set my focus lock when I got the opportunity, then focus can't adjust according to his movement, I loose my focus and every time I hit the focus button to set again focus as soon he stops for a while. but I think my camera should do that, once AF is locked, I'm also talking about taking pictures in-door that means no such variable to obstruct the AF point.
alberto_bocca
Remember that you must be in the "creative zone" (P/TV/AV/M/B) to choose AF mode and AF point.
In the Basic zone the camera chooses AF mode and AF point automatically.
I hope it helps.
Regards Alberto Bocca

neill_farmer2
The 6D is a great camera and part of its greatness is it's simplicity. To get focus tracking press the 'AF' button and turn the top wheel until 'AI servo' appears. The camera scrolls through 'one shot', 'AI focus' and 'AI servo'. It is not recommended to use 'AI focus". With a half press of the shutter the camera will focus, keeping the shutter half pressed swing the camera to pick up other objects at different distances. the lens should refocus on these as the camera is swung around. If this does not happen something is wrong. Pressing and holding the 'AF On' button should have the same effect as a shutter half press.
Before sending the camera away I would reset the camera to the default settings, there is a menu item for this, 'clear camera settings'.
