User_6502147
After months of having issues with NX2, I was able to pull a decent jpg out of it. But, I'm still having a bit of a problem. When I crop the photo (as I intend)....the resulting jpg does not reflect that....and shows up as the original (size) NEF. Anyone has a clue ? Is there something that I'm not doing...or something needs tweaking ?
Thanks.

Les
dan_brown4
Do you save the NEF file after the crop? You have to do that before reformatting to JPG in order for the JPG to reflect the size change. But, NX2 warns you if you don't save, so it's pretty obvious.
User_6502147
Thanks, Dan. Fortunately I have copies of the same NEF if something goes wrong. The largest issue is that the software came with no specific instructions HOW TO....so it's easy to confuse things. I never had these problems with CNX2. Will try again.

Les
martynas_photo
open the program, go to Edit>Preferences. In the General section make sure that the checkbox "Keep all steps active in edit list" is checked.
thirteenthumbs
https://support.nikonusa.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/13948 , scroll down to the software box and click on Capture NX2 or Capture NX, whichever you want/need. Save the PDF to a folder on your HD once it loads.
In the event the above link fails its www.nikonusa.com then hover over service and support then click on
browse product manuals software is the third box from the top and Capture NX2 is at the top.
dan_brown4
When you save an edited NEF, you don't lose any information, and the NEF can be restored at any time. What you are actually doing is appending some edit information into the NEF file. When the JPG conversion is done, it follows those instructions in the NEF file. That is why you must save the changes before converting.
Try this. Open a NEF, crop it, save it, and then convert to JPG. It should work.
kari_oinonen
It should work also like this: do those edits you want. Then save to jpg. In this case the nef is not saved, but the edited jpg is saved. I do like this if I want to adjust the size for just the jpg and not for the nef. Works fine.
The crop function: You select first the crop area. The preview shows the selection when it is active. Then, hitting the <enter> will actually do the cropping. The preview should show the result at once. You may check that the edit list has the cropping step marked as activated (checkmarked).
Like said above, you can deselect any of your previous edits by unchecking the appropriate step in the edit list. Only the checked and selected edit steps are taken into account.
mihai_ciuca
Hi Les,

Are you speaking about NX2 or about the new NX-D?

Because I did some tests in NX-D and works exactly how you said... when exporting to jpeg or tiff, if the image is cropped it export a cropped upper-left corner of the original image, not that part I cropped from it.

I believe is a bug of the software.
mihai_ciuca
I've found a topic here on photo net about the trouble I have with NX-D. Look here.
kari_oinonen
It was earlier stated that there are no wrong questions. If Leszek was initially meaning CNX-D instead of NX2 he wrote, then we have one example or a wrong question in here.
The problem with CNX-D crop is now corrected in the version 1.2.0

If the problem still persists with CNX-2, then I would check where the new saved file went. A "save as" is a safe bet.
User_6502147
Thanks for trying to figure this out. My problem is with NX2. Just saved it as Dan suggested. What happened was: a panel popped up stating "an error has occurred". Fine, I go back to the images and the NEF is altered (cropped), but no jpg to be found. Not sure how to deal with this fiasco.

Les
thirteenthumbs
I would go to http://www.nikonusa.com/en/index.page > service and support > browse software updates and download the latest version of NX2.
Uninstall your current installation of NX2, run a registry cleaner such as Advanced System Care http://www.iobit.com/advancedsystemcareper.php or Ccleaner http://download.cnet.com/CCleaner/?tag=main;pop then install the new download. I am finding that after security updates from Microsoft are installed and a problem occurs in NX-D a new version will come up a few days to a week later on Nikon's site. The update feature inside the application will not show any updates available but a fresh download will update the installed version. The delete, clean registry, install fresh version cuts or eliminates corruption errors that may exist that can be carried over to the newer version.
kari_oinonen
Show jpg and nef as one file - do you have this activated? This is the "double overlapping square" -icon. If yes, the the UI shows nef and jpg as single file. I used to have errors when the pc ram was low.
Sometimes you may need to clean the cache: edit->preferences->cache settings.
